This Woman Had A Contact Lens Stuck In Her Eye For 28 Years
A woman from the U.K had a contact lens lodged in her eye for 28 years and the thought is making us cringe
The only thing worse than not being able to see due to a loss of a contact lens has to be getting one stuck in your eye for nearly three decades. A recent BMJ Case Report detailed how a 42-year-old woman living in Great Britain lost a contact lens when she was merely a teenager, only to have doctors find it stuck in her eye 28 years later.
At first, the patient felt a small lump below her left eye and after going to the doctor, an MRI showed that the cyst was causing the woman’s left eyelid to droop. When the doctors went to remove the cyst, they were shocked to find that a contact lens somehow became lodged into the eyelid. Apparently, the patient had lost the contact lens when she was only 14 while playing a game of badminton. Unable to find the lens, she assumed that it must have just fallen out.
The author of the report states “The patient never wore [rigid gas-permeable] lenses following this incident. We can infer that the RGP lens migrated into the patient’s left upper eyelid at the time of trauma and had been in situ for the last 28 years.”
And this isn’t the only time we’ve heard of a bizarre contact-related story. Back in 2016, a 67-year-old British woman accumulated a blue mass in one of her eyes that turned out to be 27 contact lenses mashed together.
Please, if you ever suspect that you’re having any problems with your eyes, please go to the eye doctor, preferably before three decades goes by.
