Swipe Right On This: Tinder Unveils "Tinder U"

Tinder has rolled out a college only service, Tinder U

Tinder U was announced on the Tinder Blog this morning. Tinder U is a new feature specifically designed to connect college students with one another on campus. Tinder U is also not exclusive to dating - the Tinder Blog mentions that users can find a study buddy, coffee date, and make new friends on campus. Tinder U also allows users to swipe on students at a nearby school, saying “kiss those crosstown rivalries goodbye. ;)”

How does Tinder U work?

Users can log in to their Tinder app and in order to unlock the Tinder U feature, users must register using an email address ending in .edu

The user's home screen will then show their school's logo at the top of the screen in order to show that their searches are school specific. Users with a Gold membership will be able to toggle over a diamond icon and see "Tinder Picks," which will include schools outside of their own.

Tinder U sounds like the right step for the company since most of its users are between 18-24 years old. It will be interesting, however, since Tinder has been used so exclusively for dating and one night stands, to see how the new classmates and friends addition will work.

Tinder U is going to be available on all iOS devices at 4-year, accredited, not for profit school in the U.S.
