Nike Just Released An Ad Featuring Serena Williams When She Was 9 And It’s Amazing
With motivation from her father Richard, Serena Williams shows how she just did it in Nike’s new ad for the US Open
Despite being subject to recent controversy over wearing an all-black Nike “catsuit” at the French Open and then rocking a black tutu at the US Open, Serena Williams is still one of the greatest tennis players to have ever played. In partnership with Williams, Nike recently dropped a new ad for the US Open that will make your heart smile a thousand times over.
The spot is not quite what you would expect to see from one of the world’s biggest shoe retailers. Instead of featuring some ultra-cinematic shots of people “just doing it” the ad instead shows a home video of 9-year-old Williams and her father, Richard, practicing outside. Richard tells the young Serena to just imagine that she’s at the US Open, a tournament that she’s now won six times. The clip then continues to play motivational words from her father in the background while it cuts to various clips of the tennis legend playing as an adult and as a child. The heartwarming spots ends with “It’s only crazy until you do it.”
