There is a new robotic finger attachment for smartphones that can do things like caress your hand

Imagine a world where having six fingers was the standard…how much more efficient would people be? Phones are already becoming an extension of our hands, and now there is a robotic finger that can attach to your smartphone.

Developed by Ph.D. student Marc Teyssier, MobiLimb is a research project that is aimed at “overcoming mobile device limitations (static, passive, motionless) by using a robotic limb.”

According to an informational video Teyssier posted on YouTube, the robotic finger can do practical things like move the phone, prop the phone up for when you want to watch a video, and it can also help with gripping the device. The finger also comes with some less traditional purposes like sensing how the user is feeling, gently caressing the user’s hand, and even looking like human skin - among other things.
