The Japanese Zombie Movie ‘One Cut Of The Dead’ Is Getting Perfect Scores On Rotten Tomatoes
Japanese zombie-comedy One Cut Of The Dead is an indie sensation and has already generated 250 times its budget at the box office
What a month for amazing movies coming from the Asian community. Crazy Rich Asians, To All the Boys I've Loved Before, and now Japanese zombie movie One Cut Of The Dead which is killing it in the box office and has gotten nothing but perfect reviews by critics and users alike.
The zombie-comedy, which was written, directed and edited by filmmaker Shinichiro Ueda in eight days opens up with a 37-minute take and only had a budget of $27,000. Grossing $7.2 million so far, One Cut Of The Dead opened in an art-house theater in Tokyo last November and has grown to be such a big success that it can now be seen on 200 screens across Hong Kong, Scandinavia, Taiwan, Germany, South Korea and the U.K.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film got a standing ovation and won the Audience Award at this year's Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy. And the movie is killing it on Rotten Tomatoes, scoring a 100% critic score from 10 reviews, including Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Indiewire. The trailer to the film can be seen below.
