Netflix has revealed six new animated films and series
Netflix is working to release two new original animated films and four new animated series
With Disney launching its own streaming service, Netflix is working on creating content that can compete with Mickey Mouse. Netflix is increasing its family content and introducing its own original animated movies and shows.
The films include My Father's Dragon and The Willoughbys. The Willoughbys is already in production and has some well-known names in the cast: Ricky Gervais, Maya Rudolph, Will Forte, Martin Short, Alessia Cara, and Jane Krakowski. The star-studded film is an adaptation of a novel by Lois Lowry which follows the story of four children who are abandoned by their parents.
Aside from the films, Netflix is also working on series like Maya and the Three which will essentially be a "Mexican Lord of the Rings, but hilarious." The show will feature a female hero and will be directed by Jorge Gutierrez, who also directed Book of Life. Gutierrez is most excited about the show because he realized that "too much of mythology is sexist...this is [his] attempt to provide an awesome female hero and put her on this amazing quest."
There will also be a series Kid Cosmic by the same creator as Powerpuff Girls, Craig McCracken. In addition to those shows, there will also be two preschool-age shows: Trash Truck and Go! Go! Cory Carson.
