MGM Soon To Release Its Own Sports Betting App
MGM is rolling out new sports betting app as early as next week
For all of you gamblers out there, next week will be a good week for you. MGM Resort is rolling out large-scale access to mobile sports betting as soon as they receive some lat minute final approvals. The state’s Division of Gaming Enforcement is expected to approve the app, named playMGM any day now.
At first, only a few early adopters will be allowed to play DraftKings Sportsbook before it’s opened to the general public.
And MGM isn’t the only casino out there looking to expand into the world of handheld betting. FanDuel announced a partnership with Boyd Gaming Corp. last week, stating that it’s looking “to pursue sports betting and online gaming opportunities across the United States.” And Caesars Entertainment has also committed to online wagering in New Jersey, although the launch date has not yet been released.
This is all thanks to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy who signed a law this past June that allows brick-and-mortar casinos to take sports bets. But due to the 30-day moratorium he also put on extending the activity to cyberspace, those operators will just have to wait sometime before they’re app friendly.
The Division of Gaming Enforcement will also have to approve each app, including its geolocation in order to ensure that all bets are placed inside state lines.
