This 'Mario Kart' tour company may just have to shut down for good

Mario Kart tour company MariCar just lost a big lawsuit with Nintendo and may have to shut down for good

If you haven’t already been able to enjoy MariCar, the Mario Kart-themed go-kart tour company in Tokyo, then you may just never get the chance to. The company was recently court-ordered to stop dressing its riders in Mario costumes and also has to fork over 10 million yen (approximately $89,000) in damages. Even though MariCar had already been sued by Nintendo in early 2017, the company continued to operate under the same conditions and was even caught red-handed running around the streets of Tokyo by none other than Hugh Jackman.

Even though MariCar totally infringes on Nintendo’s intellectual property, it’s still a pretty cool concept. The service allows people to rent out karts to tour one of Japan’s coolest cities, all while dressed up as one of the famous characters from the world of Mario. Although Nintendo has already released an official statement, MariCar said that it’s still reviewing the decision and would respond at a later time.
