Nutella v. Avocado: Which Is Healthier? The Results May Shock You
According to The Fitness Chef, Nutella toast might actually be healthier than avocado toast
An Instagram post by Graeme Tomlinson (@thefitnesschef_) with a comparison between avocado toast and Nutella toast has been floating around the web and people are not happy about it. The post pictures avocado toast along with the word “Idolized” and Nutella toast with the word “Demonized” and beneath that is the calorie count - with Nutella toast ranking as a lower calorie option (by 13 calories).
Tomlinson did point out that there is a difference between calorie count and nutritional value - something may be fewer calories but it also is less nutritious. He said that we idolize some foods because we believe they are “better” for us, while we demonize other foods. “But in isolation, no food is correct or incorrect.” Tomlinson also mentioned that in dieting, it’s important to assess someone’s overall diet instead of individual food choices.
“Beneath the grand, salubrious and often unsubstantiated beliefs, lie facts. Facts about actual nutritional value of food, its worth in energy and how it fits in with the bigger picture or specific goal.”
So, basically, feel free to eat the Nutella toast (especially knowing it’s fewer calories than avocado toast), but be sure to balance the rest of your diet with foods that have a higher nutritional value (even if they have more calories). At the end of the day, dieting is all about balance.
