Instagram Is Going Back To School With A New Feature
Instagram is testing a new feature that will help connect college students
Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, originally started out as a way to connect college students and Instagram's newest feature is likely akin to that. Instagram is releasing a beta feature that will be specific to college students in an attempt to help students connect with one another.
The goal is to create groups on Instagram that would bring together students at the same university who have similar interests - this is part of Facebook’s pledge to “spark conversations and meaningful interactions.”
So far, this new feature is only being run as a test and students will have to opt in to experience the Instagram groups. Once a student opts in, they’ll need to confirm their university and graduation year and then they’ll be given access to a community that is specific to their university.
This announcement comes very soon after Tinder announced Tinder U which serves a similar purpose; however, Tinder U will likely be more romantic while Instagram will aim to be more community based.
