The British actor, Idris Elba, is joining an already incredibly star-studded cast or Cats

Cats is one of the longest-running Broadway shows out there - as of September 23, 2018, there have been 7,485 showings. Due to its popularity, it is also one of the best-known musicals. The musical is about a group of cats and the story is told through dance and song - with very little dialogue in between. The film adaptation, produced by Universal Pictures, will be star-studded.

Idris Elba, who is most well known for roles such as Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire, John Luther in BBC's Luther, and Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, will be playing the role of Macavity. Macavity is the villain in the show because he kidnaps Old Deuteronomy and tries to abduct Demeter.

Other stars in the cast include Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Taylor Swift. It will be interesting to see how Universal Pictures pulls this one off. The film is set to hit theaters in December 2019.
