This Little Girl’s Homemade 'Crazy Rich Asians' Dress Is Bringing Us Tears Of Joy
5-year-old Olivia Truong is sporting an extravagant Crazy Rich Asians-inspired dress made by her mom and it’s extremely heartwarming
In case you haven’t seen the movie Crazy Rich Asians yet, the film features an extravagant blue Marchesa dress worn by lead female actor Constance Wu. After seeing the movie’s trailer, Ha Truong from Miami spent two hours and used eight yards of tulle to build her 5-year-old daughter Olivia a dress just like what Wu wears in the movie.
Guilty pleasure: reading the @crazyrichasians trilogy. Anyone else excited for the movie next week? . In the trailer, @ConstanceWu wears this ethereal blue gown. I knew we had to recreate it in honor of... being Asian. Once the flowers were on, Olivia gasped and said “Damnnn, Rachel!” Just kidding.. she said “Woww!” She gets super excited every time the trailer comes on now and says “Mom! Look! It’s my dress! It’s Constance Wu!” . Fun fact: the last Asian-American (non-martial arts) Hollywood studio film was The Joy Luck Club. I was 7. . . . Even though her sewing skills don't go beyond eighth grade home economics class, Ha still enjoys spending time making dresses for her daughter. Olivia loved the dress so much that she even asked her mom if she could wear it forever. A week after Truong posted the dress to Instagram, Wu reached out and asked if she could re-post the video to her own account, in which little Olivia quotes Wu saying "Immigrant stories are stories of dreams, of love, of sacrifice, of courage, of honor."
