What Everyone Is Talking About: Surprise Proposal At The Emmys!
The Emmy Awards were last night - but they are being vastly overshadowed by the acceptance speech gone proposal by Glenn Weiss
Glenn Weiss stole the show at last night’s Emmy Awards by proposing to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen. Weiss might not be the most famous Emmy winner, but last night’s Emmy Award was actually his 11th Emmy Award. Over the years, he’s won many awards for his direction of live events and variety specials. Last night he won the award for Outstanding Director for a Variety Special for the 2017 Oscar Awards.
Who’s Weiss’s (now) fiancé?
Jan Svendsen - the Chief Creative Office for the Charity Network. Prior to her current role, she was the Director of Marketing and Business Development for The Broadway League. Svendsen has produced Broadway concerts and a few live events and TV specials such as the Tony Awards Preview Show and Stars In The Alley.
The Proposal (Aww!)
Weiss won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special and during his acceptance speech he decided he would propose to his girlfriend. Weiss’s mother passed away 2 weeks ago and he dedicated the honor to his mother saying, “Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend Jan. Jan, you are the sunshine in my life. And mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”
At that moment, the camera immediately panned to an (obviously) quite emotional Svendsen. Weiss invited her up on stage saying, “Jan, I want to put this ring my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people, and my mom and your parents watching (from above).”
Needless to say, she said yes!
We here at The Sitch love a good love story and we are happy for Weiss and Svendsen as they begin their life-long journey towards love and happiness. Let us know your thoughts in the comments section and be sure to subscribe to The Sitch for more surprising news and other entertaining reads.
