Dunkin Donuts Is Releasing A Beer This Fall
Dunkin Donuts is a crowd favorite for donuts, coffee and now beer?
Beer and coffee lovers, rejoice! Dunkin Donuts is officially teaming up with Harpoon Brewery in Massachusetts to release a coffee inspired porter beer to be called "Dunkin Coffee Porter." This beer will be available in the fall and will be 6% alcohol. Harpoon and Dunkin are releasing the beer regionally in Massachusetts, but if it is well received it will then be released nationally. According to a Harpoon spokesperson, the bottle will say "This porter is a tribute to all the days that Dunkin' has helped us fire up the brew kettle."
What is a porter beer?
Porter’s have been around since the 18th century and were considered a revolution in brewing (everything prior had been pale ales and lagers). Porter was the first style of beer to gain huge popularity and is said to be George Washington’s favorite beer. A Porter is made typically by combining coffee and often chocolate notes and sometimes even fruit tones. They are sometimes confused with stouts but the difference is that porters use malted barley and stouts use unmalted roasted barley. However, the two types of beer do taste very similar.
Why Dunkin Donuts and beer?
Artisan beers have been gaining momentum in recent years and micro brewery tours have become a hip thing to do among millennials. This is actually Dunkin Donuts' second attempt at partnering with a brewery. Their first collaboration was called "DDark Brew" and was only served at Wormtown Brewery, where it was made. For their second beer collaboration, Dunkin is looking to expand their audience and reach more people. Harpoon brewery is known for their IPA's and dark beers, so we think this could result in being a match made in heaven. Now our only question is why has Starbucks not joined the beer party?
No release date has been officially set as of yet, but this beer can be expected to hit shelves sometime this upcoming October or November.
