Disney Now Has Robot Stunt Doubles
Disney’s new humanoids look like superheroes flying through the air
Disney has been making robots, and it turns out that they make quite the stunt double replacement. TechCrunch reported back in June that Disney had been working on these advances in animatronics (originally stemming from it’s “Stickman" robot that completes backflips with ease) in order to build a better viewing experience while at its theme parks.
Otherwise known as Stuntronics, these robots are autonomous, self-correcting aerial performers that fly through the air and never miss catching the bar. These Stuntronics are a result of Disney’s need to showcase active, animated characters similar to those found in their biggest movies from Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars. Simply put - If people are seeing animated characters on the big screen, then they should be able to see them at the park, too.
Thanks to the onboard accelerometer and gyroscope arrays supported by laser range finding found on these human-like robots, they are able to compete with even the best gymnasts while soaring through the air.
