The Broadway hit musical 'Dear Evan Hansen' will be heading to the big screen
'Dear Evan Hansen' won the Tony Award for best musical in 2017 will be making its way the big screen
Universal Pictures has officially acquired the film rights to 'Dear Evan Hansen,' a Broadway musical about a high school student dealing with social anxiety. A classmate of his commits suicide and the family accidentally mistakes one of Hansen's letters for their son's suicide note. The musical has seen great success on Broadway winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show also won a Grammy Award for Best Musical.
The music for the show was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also wrote the music for hits like "La La Land" and "The Greatest Showman." Sources say that Ben Platt, who originated the role of Evan Hansen and won a Tony award for his performance, will be returning to the role in the film adaptation.
The film is very much in the beginning stages and there's no word as to when it will hit theaters yet, but when it does it's sure to see great success.
