Coca-Cola Might Have A Marijuana-Infused Drink Soon
Coca-Cola is in serious talks with Canadian Aurora Cannabis to develop cannabis-infused drinks
When you think that you’ve heard it all – from gummy bears, to lollipops, Sour Patch Kids, space brownies …. and then Coke goes out and says that it’s in serious talks with Canadian marijuana producer Aurora Cannabis to develop cannabis-infused drinks. In a world that’s forcing soda brands to make healthier products for its consumers, the Atlanta-based beverage tyrant might just be looking to utilize CBDs in its soft drinks for the greater good. Now, before you go thinking that a can of Coke will someday make you high, know that CBDs are the non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that helps people with pain, but doesn’t come with any of the hallucinogenic side effects.
According to Bloomberg, Coca-Cola spokesman Kent Landers said in an email that the company is “closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” and that the “The space is evolving quickly. No decisions have been made at this time.”
And Coca-Cola isn’t the only beverage company that’s looking to infuse drinks with cannabis. The makers of alcoholic beverages like Guinness and Corona beers are also planning to partner up with various marijuana companies and Heineken NV’s Lagunitas has even been working to roll out non-alcoholic drinks infused with THC (the chemical that foes get you high).
It’s pretty interesting to see how many beverage companies are looking to include marijuana as a key ingredient in some of its future products.
