This coffee shop in South Korea is a photographer’s dream
Excuse us while we drink coffee from inside a camera in South Korea
National Coffee Day is tomorrow and we at The Sitch love coffee so much that we are featuring a unique coffee shop each day leading up to the caffeinated holiday. This coffee shop in Yangpyeong, South Korea is shaped like a camera.
The coffee shop, appropriately named Dream Camera Cafe, is a fully functional coffee shop built to resemble the Rolleiflex Mini film camera from the 1950s.
The coffee shop is owned by couple Pak Song Hwan and Kwak Myeong Hwee - the idea stemmed from a “bucket list of dreams.” The couple had just given birth to a daughter and they were tired from the the city life. While making their dream list, they came up with their dreams - “we wrote down our dreams. My dream was to live in the country. His dream was to have 50 cameras…our daughter’s dream was to have dogs.”
The solution? They built the Dream Camera Cafe and bought some dogs. The structure of the building was inspired by Pak’s love of cameras and they chose to base the architecture off of the Rolleiflex Mini - which gives the coffee shop a truly unique look.
The coffee shop is right next to the couple’s home, in the country, where they live with their daughter and dogs. It opened in June 2013 and was met with quite a response. Pak said that “people thought it was fake…they thought it was Photoshop. But this is not Photoshop!”
Pak is still an avid photographer and takes photos of the guests and develops them in-house - then they give one copy of the photo to the guest and they hang the other copy of the photo on the wall.
The coffee shop serves delicious Korean roasted coffee and the couple wants others to enjoy sipping on a cup of coffee while they dream of their own dreams. They said, “we made our dream. Now it’s time for you to make yours….Is there anything you want to say to yourself? Write them down in big letters.”
This coffee shop is not only a truly unique coffee shop, but a wonderful reminder that no dream is too big (or small) to follow with all your heart.
