Boris & Horton: New York City’s First Ever Dog Café

Dogs can exert their energy while their owners take in some caffeine at Boris & Horton in New York

National Coffee Day is September 29 and we at The Sitch love coffee so much that we are featuring a quirky coffee shop each day this week. Today’s feature is bark-tastic, to say the least.

Pet owners, specifically dog owners (and even more specifically New York dog owners) absolutely love taking their dogs everywhere. The movies, the park, Target, bars, you name it and a dog owner wants their dog to come. Well, now dog owners’ dreams can come true. Boris and Horton is New York’s very first dog café (and it meets all health regulations and safety specifics for both serving food and drinks as well as allowing dogs to have fun off the leash). The café is divided into two sections - one section that serves coffee and treats (beer/wine in the evening) and another section where dog owners can unleash their dogs.

Why dog owners love it

Boris & Horton gives pet owners the opportunity to take their dog to a café where they won’t have to be micro managed. This grants the pet owner time to relax with friends or catch up on work. We at The Sitch have enjoyed taking our dogs to Boris & Horton while we catch up on the latest news.

Why dogs love it

Dogs tails are endlessly wagging as soon as they enter Boris & Horton because they get to play with a pack of new furry friends and, similar to the dog park, they’re allowed to be off the leash and run around. Boris & Horton also hosts adoption events where prospective dog owners can come to meet local dogs that are up for adoption. The adoption events take place right outside of the café.

Why coffee lovers love it

Aside from the dog friendliness (which is by far the main attraction), Boris & Horton also features quite the menu. Its drinks are typical coffee drinks like drip coffee, cappuccinos, and lattes, but it also features unique matcha lattes and an iced matcha lemonade. The café also serves avocado toast and a slew of other options. In the evening it serves wine and beer and guests that bought coffee or tea that morning can return in the evening for $2 off their evening beverage.

We at The Sitch wouldn’t be surprised if Boris & Horton was the first of many dog cafés (and we hope it is) because it truly is a genius idea. What are your thoughts on this dog café?
