Ariana Grande's 'Thank U, Next' video was just released and it's literally perfect

Ariana Grande can take any situation and turn it into a 'smash'

Ariana Grande has been in the headlines a lot recently regarding her love life. First, there was the breakup with the late Mac Miller, then there was her rapid engagement to SNL's Pete Davidson followed by the death of Mac Miller and then the ending of her engagement to Pete Davidson. Grande essentially had two options: either let everyone else talk about her love life or talk about it herself. Obviously, she chose the latter and we are so glad she did. Within hours, 'Thank U, Next' became a break-up anthem and was the fastest song ever to go platinum. Now the song, that truly is a 'smash,' has an equally terrific music video to go along with it.

The video begins with Mean Girls references - there are the 'nerds' talking about things they've done out of admiration for Grande (things like getting pregnant and punching themselves in the face). As Grande peruses her 'burn book' of exes, she sings her opening lines: "Thought I'd end up with Sean, but it wasn't a match..." She then proceeds to go through her last four lovers - Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, Pete Davidson, and Malcolm Miller.

After Grande lives out her fantasy as Regina George, she moves into her second verse which is all about loving herself. There's a scene with her brushing her teeth and laughing and then eventually we see cheerleaders in a Bring It On! reference. Grande then moves into a 13 Going On 30 scene with her sitting and playing with a dollhouse before the scene shift and she gives us some serious Elle Woods vibes and even has an adorable chihuahua to go with it.

Each of the scenes in the music video pay tribute to iconic films for millennial’s, these are movies that everyone grew up watching and so the music video has a very nostalgic feel. However, each of the characters that Grande is portraying is a strong independent woman on their own, which is what Grande's overall message is in the song.

Grande has proven to us with ‘Thank U, Next’ that she is officially a pop icon for the millennial generation and that Taylor Swift isn't the only music artist out there to call out past lovers through song. The song, ‘Thank U, Next’ was released on November 3 and has reached #1 on multiple charts. Following the success of the song, Grande created undeniable hype for the music video by posting pictures on Instagram featuring different iconic characters from the films mentioned above and she even released a teaser trailer for the music video. The video was released at 3 pm today (November 30) and within the first 10 minutes already had nearly 500,000 views. If that's not star power, we don't know what is.
