Apple Just Announced The iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max

Here’s a look at Apple’s new line of iPhones

Earlier today, Apple revealed its new line of iPhones during its #AppleEvent along with the newest iteration of the Apple Watch. The new iPhone X editions presented are very similar to the models we shared last month and come in three versions, the XR, XS and XS Max.

iPhone XS and XS Max

The iPhone XS and XS Max are essential the same, just one happens to be bigger than the other. They come in gold, silver, space gray and have dual cameras boasting 12-megapixel wide and telephoto lenses. The front-facing camera is still only 7-megapixels but it does show depth when taking portrait mode selfies. One cool feature of the new cameras is that you can now control the depth and bokeh of pictures taken so if you want creamier backgrounds, you got them.

The new A12 Bionic chip has a killer 7-nonometer processor, which also happens to be the first in any smartphone. Apple claims that the battery life will be 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X and the dual-SIM card port now supports eSIM technology. The screen is 3D Touch pressure-sensitive and Face ID is said to work faster than that of the iPhone X.

Unlike previous iPhone product launches, like the iPhone SC and iPhone 5C, Apple didn’t cut any corners when making the more affordable iPhone XR. The smartphone is by any means a budget phone. With a starting price of $749, the XR will definitely be appealing to those looking to upgrade to the latest and greatest without spending a thousand dollars.

The iPhone XR is housed in an aluminum body with a glass back and has a single 12-megapixel wide-angle lens, which comes with OIS, similar to what’s found on the iPhone XS. Colors come in blue, coral, yellow, white, black, and Product Red. Many of the specs on the XR are similar to the XS and XS Max, such as the same storage options, Face ID, A12 Bionic chip, iOS 12 and longer battery life (maybe not quite as long as the XS’, but it still lasts 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone 8). What makes the XR different from its XS counterparts is that it lacks 3D Touch, a better camera and only has IP67 water resistance verses the IP68 found on the XS models.

The new lines of iPhone Xs are a key move in Apple’s strategy, as smartphones overall are continuing to become more expensive and other smartphone manufacturers, like the Chinese brand Huawei are beating out the tech giant in total phones sold.

Preorders for the iPhone XS and XS Max begin this Friday, September 14, while the phones will go on sale the following Friday, September 21. If you’re looking to grab one of the more affordable XR models, then you’ll have to wait until October to buy one. Oh, and if you wanted to know about the new Apple Watch Series 4, you’ll be happy to know that it starts at $399, packs a larger display, has a ECG sensor and can tell when you have fallen or tripped.
