Amazon Just Announced A Lot Of New Smart Gadgets
Yesterday, Amazon announced a lot of new smart devices that will work with Alexa - including a microwave and subwoofer
Do you use Alexa to help control your smart home? Use her for things like turning the lights on and off or controlling your TV? If you don’t, then you should because it’s definitely a game changer and can help make your home smarter without absolutely breaking the bank. Earlier this week, Amazon announced a lot of new gadgets that it will be rolling out, most of which are cool, smart accessories that can be controlled by Alexa.
Updated Echo Dot
To start out – Amazon is releasing a new, more futuristic version of the Echo Dot. We currently have the original Echo an Echo Dot, but the current model of the Dot just doesn’t compare to Google’s smaller version of a personal assistant. Amazon says that the new 1.6-inch speaker on the updated Dot will help make the little hockey puck 70% times louder and will only cost $49.99.
Who doesn’t love the boom you get from a nice sounding Subwoofer? Amazon’s Echo Sub will go for $129.99 and Amazon says that people will likely want to put two together to make a stereo pair. But if not, then you’ll still be able to pair each sub individually and add more bass to just one Echo.
Amazon Smart Plug
Before now, you had to purchase a non-amazon made Wi-Fi enabled smart plug in order to teach Alexa how to turn switches on and off. Well, now Amazon has its own version of the plug which is great because it will let you talk through the setup instead of having to use multiple apps and complete multiple steeps in order to get going. Amazon will start shipping the Smart Plug next month for $24.99.
Amazon Basics Microwave
While it may not be as nice as a $600 June Oven, Amazon’s Basics Microwave is great because you’ll never have to touch a button to start the heating process ever again. All you have to do is throw your food into the microwave, close the door and then tell Alexa to start cooking your food – it’s really that simple. Oh, and the microwave only costs $59.99 which is quite a bargain.
Echo Wall Clock
Ok, so this one doesn’t make as much sense as the others. If you can already ask your Echo or Echo Dot to set alarms and tell the time, then what’s the point of having a physical smart clock on the wall? Regardless, the Echo Wall Clock will be able to set various alarms, which are represented by LED lights around the outside edge of the clock. While it may be somewhat pointless , it does look pretty cool and only costs $29.99.
One of the coolest announcements at Amazon’s big Alexa event was the fact that you’ll soon be able to bring Alexa into your car. While there are already a bunch of new cars that have the feature built in, you’ll now be able to use the small device on top of the dashboard of your 2000 Honda Civic. The Echo Auto will tell you where the closest gas station is and a slew of other car-friendly features all without ever having to pick up a phone.
Amazon is currently conducting a beta program where they will let people test the product for only $24.99 while the final product will set you back $49.99. Still not too bad, given that for less than $50 you’ll be able to turn any car into a smart car.
There were, of course, a few other cool gadgets that Amazon revealed during the event but these are some of the coolest we saw.
