Here’s How Alexa Can Help Keep Burglars Away
A new skill for Amazon’s Echo can help defend against burglars
If only Macaulay Culkin had Alexa by his side when he was fighting off those two burglars in Home Alone. Amazon’s Echo just learned a new skill that might just rid off people thinking about breaking into your house. And it’s less expensive than buying smart lights and plugs that simulate when you’re home, rummaging around the house.
Alexa’s new "Away Mode" skill by Hippo Insurance plays conversations recorded by real-life people talking about numerous awkward things. The feature just launched and already has seven tracks included, ranging from couples fighting at home while watching TV to a stay at home mom that seems to be losing her mind – all of which are scenarios from TV shows like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Saturday Night Live and various writers from Upright Citizens Brigade.
Each track is about an hour long so unfortunately, you won’t be able to depend on Alexa to keep the burglars away for too long. Reviews also say that the skill can be a hit or miss at times but it’s a corky feature that’s worth giving a shot while you’re out running errands. Regardless, we’re excited to see how many more hilarious tracks Hippo plans to add to this cool new feature.
