Why This Millionaire Collects Cans From The Street
Millionaire in Prospect Park spends days collecting cans and recycling them
A profile from the New York Post revealed that Lisa Fiekowski is more than just a lady collecting cans in garbage bags on the street - she’s also worth over $8 million. Driving a clunky, graffiti covered 1993 Toyota Camry, Fiekowski lives in Prospect Park with her husband, who makes almost $200,000 a year.
Recently, people in her neighborhood began to complain about the appearance of her car and the clutter that these cans were causing. Little did they know that she actually holds an MBA and lives in a million dollar apartment (she also owns 3 properties in Harlem).
Even though she is worth millions, she calls herself “an old-fashioned bohemian” and says it’s sad that “New York used to have acceptance of people being eccentric, but now it’s like, ‘Heaven forbid!’”
Fiekowski’s past life consisted of being a diplomat and a trade representative. She has an MBA from Chicago University and worked as a marketing analyst at AT&T as well as a stockbroker. Now, she is 67 years old and enjoys the exercise that going out and collecting cans provides.
This eccentric gal has been collecting cans for nearly a decade now and only makes roughly $20-$30 a day. Each can makes approximately 5 cents, so that's roughly 500 cans each day.
