Flashback Friday: Windows 95 Can Now Be Downloaded As An App
'90s kids rejoice! Windows 95 is now an app you can download
Before the days of CandyCrush, Google Chrome, Photoshop, and Safari, there was Minesweeper, Solitaire, Paint, and Internet Explorer.
Times were certainly much simpler at the beginning of the Internet age and Windows 95 is likely the first Internet memory for many people who were born in the late '80s and early '90s. That’s why it was made into a nostalgic app that can be downloaded on iOS, MacOS, Linux, and of course Windows.
The Windows 95 app can be downloaded from GitHub and comes with all of the best parts Windows 95 had to offer.
The only caveat is that while all of the applications are there, not all of them work - due to the lack of network access; for example, Internet Explorer is unusable in the app. The Windows 95 app was created primarily for the nostalgic sentiment and was not intended for practicality since technology has advanced so much since the operating system was around.
Users can still use the Paint feature and play Minesweeper or Solitaire - and let's be honest, who didn't love the feeling of winning a game of Solitaire?
Windows 95 is great to reminisce and reflect back on, but we at The Sitch are grateful that technology has progressed into bigger and better things.
