Your Guide To The 2018 MTV VMAs

The MTV VMAs are tomorrow and here’s what’s in store

The MTV Video Music Award (VMA for short) is an award given by MTV to honor the best in the music video world for the year. The VMAs are often considered an alternative to the Grammy Awards, however, the VMAs are more specific to music videos, whereas the Grammys focus on music as a whole. The winner of the Video of the Year receives a trophy with an astronaut on it. Fun fact: the astronaut was referred to as “moon man” from 1984 until 2017 when it was decided that it should be re-named “moon person" in order to be more gender neutral.

The VMA awards are also one of the only award shows that allows viewers to vote for their favorite music videos in all general categories online.

Top awards and who’s nominated

Top categories include: Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Video with a Message, and Song of Summer.

Cardi B has 10 nominations including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year. The Carts (Jay-Z and Beyoncé) have 8 nominations. Childish Gambino and Drake each have 7 nominations.
