What's The Song Of The Summer?

What's The Song Of The Summer?

We'll give you a hint - It goes perfectly with rum (and Coke)

It's July and we are officially in the heat of summer. It's anywhere between 80-90 degrees every day and everyone is counting down to Friday when they can leave work (and their worries) behind for a weekend at the beach or by the pool, soaking up the sun. Every summer, the top musical artists compete for who's single will be crowned "Song of the Summer." Last year, "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi took the cake and only the best song can stand a chance at beating it this year.

Summer is the time for flings, cold drinks, dance parties, pool parties, and laying out by a large body of water. The Sitch has put together a list of our thoughts for who will win song of the summer 2018 along with our favorite summer activity and drink to go with it. Enjoy!

Kacey Musgraves released an album, "Golden Hour," in March and the entire album is a fantastical fusion of disco, pop, and country. Her song "High Horse" ranks #10 for the song of the summer because the song just feels easy and breezy. We recommend listening to this song in your car with the windows down and an ice cold Coca-Cola in your hand.

Meghan Trainor truly never fails to produce a hit. It seems that each and every one of her songs can get stuck in your head for days (and sometimes weeks). Her latest single, "No Excuses," is no exception. This song is the epitome of sunshine and confidence and we think it's perfect for a summer pool party! Be sure to pair this song with a nice cold can of rosé.

This song has been an anthem since March and it's still rocking! We aren't sure if we've heard many catchier songs than this one. Grab your friends, a volleyball, a waterproof Bluetooth speaker and hit the beach listening to "The Middle" by Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey. After the game, be sure to cool off with an ice cold mojito.

Tequila by Dan + Shay is the perfect song if you're hosting a summer grill out. This song also might be the "summer fling anthem". It's all about a fling and how every time they drink tequila, they remember back to the fling. We would (obviously) pair this song with tequila, but if you can't drink it straight - then check out this recipe for a nice cool Margarita!

#6 meant to be, bebe rexha & florida georgia line

Here at The Sitch, we love a good pop/country fusion! "Meant to Be" by pop diva Bebe Rexha and country kings Florida Georgia Line perfectly captures the lighthearted, carefree spirit of summertime. Try pairing it with a nice glass of red wine or summer ale

#5 solo, clean bandit ft. demi lovato

Demi Lovato's hit "Cool For The Summer" was definitely a summer song a few years ago. Now the pop queen is back for more with Clean Bandit and their song, "Solo." This song is a very fun, upbeat dance song for the summer partier in all of us. We think this is a great song for a summer pre-game or rooftop party. Shots, anyone?

#4 NICE FOR WHAT, drake

Drake is literally dominating the top 100 Billboard chart right now with three songs in the top five and the rest of his most recent album, "Scorpion," scattered throughout. "Nice for What" is currently the reigning #1 song and is an obvious choice of song for the summer. We recommend sipping either a whiskey on rocks or a Manhattan with this anthem.

#3 no tears left to cry, ariana grande

Any song by Ariana Grande is a masterpiece, but "No Tears Left To Cry" shows us a new side of Ariana with the use of a little bit of rap from the songstress. A hauntingly beautiful song, it is currently #15 in the Billboard top 100. It's on our list because it's the perfect song to listen to while you grab your friends, a Long Island Ice Tea, some sunscreen and head to the shore!

#2 1,2,3, sofia reyes ft. jason derulo & de la ghetto

This song almost brings back the feels of "Despacito," which is why it's our second contender for song of the summer. We love the Latin fusion and the clever Spanglish lyrics. This song pairs perfectly with a boat ride on the lake and a Corona with lime.

#1 i like it, cardi b ft. bad bunny & j balvin

But of course, it would be unfair if Cardi B (who has owned most of 2018) didn't take the crown for song of the summer. Her song, "I Like It" feels like summer and is a Latin/rap/pop fusion of excellence. Grab some Bacardi Rum (obviously), an ice cold Coca-Cola, head to the beach and turn. this. song. up!
