Who Will Be The Next...Facebook Idol?

Who Will Be The Next...Facebook Idol?

Facebook is adding a singing talent competition to its platform.

A tech researcher, Jane Manchun Wong, spotted the words "talent show" in Facebook's code - this could mean that Facebook will soon allow users to choose a song and record themselves singing it. After they post the video, users could vote for their favorite song and it could even become a new way for performers to be "discovered" online - much like Youtube.

It's no secret that Facebook has had no problem facing the challenge of beating out its competitors for top social media app. Over the years, Facebook has released various updates to directly compete with other top apps like introducing a story feature (in response to Snapchat) and a new Trivia Game feature to compete with new trivia game show app, HQ. Introducing a singing talent show could be just the offensive move that Facebook needs to compete with companies like Musical.ly and Youtube.

In March, Facebook also signed a licensing deal with Warner Music - Facebook already had an established agreement with Sony and Universal. When this new deal came about, Facebook announced that it was looking for more ways to incorporate music into the platform and this new talent show feature could be the first of many new musical updates to the platform.

Facebook's new Talent Show feature might start out only being available to certain Facebook Pages, similar to their Game Show feature. The Game Show is only available to Facebook pages who are using Facebook as the platform to develop their own games.

We at The Sitch think this new feature could become a cool new way for singers to showcase their talents. As of right now, there is no specific launch date for Talent Show. What are your thoughts on Facebook's Talent Show? Let us know in the comments section below!
